HAIRFALL TREATMENT 2020
Now a days unhealthy daily routine, malnutrition, heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions or medications etc can be one reason behind hair loss in men or women.
The main type of hair loss in women is the same as
it is men. It's called Androgenetic Alopecia, or female (or male) pattern hair
loss. In women, Androgenetic Alopecia begins with gradual thinning at the
part line, followed by increasing diffuse hair loss radiating from the top of
the head. In men, hair loss usually begins above the temples, and the
receding hairline eventually forms a characteristic "M" shape; hair
at the top of the head also thins, often progressing to baldness.
Now treatment of hairfall can be done in various ways-
1.By Medicine
2.By Hair transplant surgery.
3.By Home Remedies
1. By Medicines- Following
most popular drugs are being used in hair fall treatment. These medicines are
FDA approved.
- Minoxidil
(Rogaine): It is topical liquid and it is available as a liquid or foam as
2% or 5% or 10% etc. Apply it to the scalp twice a day to grow hair and
prevent hair loss.
- Finasteride (Propecia, Proscar):This is a pill that you take daily.
It’s only available with a prescription from your doctor. Effects of
finasteride in women are poor and it may result in birth defects if taken during pregnancy.
2. By Hair transplant surgery- Now a days hair transplant surgery is the highly popular and cost effective treatment due to visible and permanent hair growth. Day by day this treatment is going to spread out across the world. Hair transplantation is a surgical technique that removes hair follicles from one part of the body, called the 'donor site', to a bald or balding part of the body known as the 'recipient site'.This surgery is done in two different methods-
A.
Follicular Hair Transplantation (FUT) or
strip harvesting method
B.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE)
A. Follicular unit transplantation (FUT, or strip method):
- A thin strip of skin with hair is
removed from the back of your head and divided into pieces, each
containing 1 to 4 hairs (hair grafts)
- the grafts are placed into tiny cuts
made in the scalp
- the site where the hairs are taken is
closed with stitches
- you'll have a scar on the back of your head, but it should not be visible unless you have very short hair
- The head does not need to be shaved – only the area where the skin is removed is trimmed.
B. Follicular unit extraction (FUE):
- Back of the head is shaved
- individual hairs are removed 1 by 1
(grafts)
- the grafts are placed into tiny
cuts made in the scalp
- you'll have lots of tiny scars, but they
will not be very noticeable
(Comparison between FUT vs FUE)
In strip harvesting, skin strips with good hair growth are planted on balding areas and in follicular unit extraction hair clusters with their roots are manually removed and planted at the hairless site.Strip harvesting is what the surgeons are mostly adopting these days. It leaves a slim scar at the donor site and promises recovery within two weeks.
FUE
can be done in a single or several settings. It is a manual and time taking
process but gives very natural results and leaves behind no marks. However, it
is not a cost effective process and is time consuming both for the doctor and
the patient. However use of robotics has reduced the time in this process and
simplified it immensely. It is a surgical process that involves removal of hair
follicles from any site in the body like face or legs and planting them on the
hairless portion.
